THE POWER OF SPEECH By L.P. Blackwood
This is a great little poem, about the importance of speech, was (I believe) written by a stroke survivor. THE POWER OF SPEECH "It's with the power of speech , that we communicate in life; not until we lose that ability do we realize just how important speech is"
One never gives speech a whole lot of thought, It's something we learn, and something were taught. Yet sometimes in life we get dealt a raw deal, And for some unknown reason, it's our speech that it steals.
We try to speak normal, But the words won't come out right, They're on the tip of our tongue, Why is this such a fight? The frustration, the anger, and even the fear, Just can't be described unless you've been there.
We're not looking for pity, We're not looking for blame. All we ask for is patience, if we can't say your name. In our heads we speak clearly, the words all fit right. It's in the vocalization that we have to fight.
Speech problems are not discriminatory, They strike one and all. And without the help of a therapist, They can be someones downfall.
God teaches us his lessons, In the way he feels right. And he gives us the Therapist, To help us in our fight.
So the next time you run into one of us, Please don't finish what were trying to say. Bear with us and be patient, It may just enlighten your day.
